Business of the Year: Fred Adams Praving Company, Inc.
Source: North Carolina Coastal Federation
Fred Adams Paving Co., inc. is not just your ordinary paving company: They get it. They know that impervious pavement leads to polluted stormwater runoff, the number one cause of coastal water quality degradation in North Carolina. As a result, Fred Adams Paving is the leader in sustainability and green building paving solutions, specializing in permeable pavers, porous pavement and green roofs. In spring 2009, the company went out of its way (literally) and traveled to the coast to donate and install a permeable pavement walkway at Annunciation Catholic School in Havelock, one of the schools participating in the federation's School Rain Garden Program. The permeable walkway added another Low Impact Development technique to the rain garden project. The company has been enhancing commercial and residential properties for over 20 years with recycled and environmentally-friendly products. Many of their permeable pavers and grass paver systems qualify for LEED® points, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Permeable pavers offer a great way to minimize pollution a stormwater runoff while still maintaining the beauty and durability that business desire.
The North Carolina Coastal Federation's mission is to provide citizens and groups with the assistance they need to take an active role in the stewardship of North Carolina's coastal water quality and natural resources.
