Fred Adams Jr. Speaks at American Society of Landscape Architects NC Spring Conference

MORRISVILLE, NC: Fred Adams Jr., of Fred Adams Paving Company, was a speaker at the North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects 2011 Spring Conference held at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, North Carolina.

Mr. Adams shared how Porous Concrete, Pervious Asphalt, Permeable Interlocking Concrete/Clay Pavers and Grass and Grid pavements can be used in North Carolina. He explained the proper cross sections for designing permeable pavements and demonstrated how they can be used over slower draining clay soils. Mr. Adams also reviewed cost comparisons to that of conventional pavements and current practices.

“Many of the savings from using Sustainable Pavements come from a reduction in stormwater infrastructure,” said Mr. Adams. “It’s important to understand how these systems are designed to minimize environmental impacts, stormwater run-off, flooding and how to treat or remove pollutants.”

There was also a discussion about how Green Sustainable Pavements can also contribute to LEED points and where these points may be achieved.

Fred Adams Jr. has been in the contracting business since 1984. He holds an Unlimited General Contracting License in North Carolina, and is an instructor for the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute teaching both Contractor Certification and PICP Certification. He is a Pervious Concrete Technician certificate holder from the national Ready Mix Concrete Association. Other Spring speaking engagements for Mr. Adams also included the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Highway Engineers.
